[Africa, Nigeria, Abia, Ohafia, Igbo, 1990-1991] [sound recording] / collected by John C. McCall.

This collection of field recordings of the Ohafia Igbo people features interviews, libations, singing, drumming, mbada music, a Yam Festival celebration, a boy's Èkpè masquerade and Èkpè burial music. All recordings were made in southeastern Nigeria in the Ohafia villages Akanu, Amaekpu and Elu. Five of the original 30 tapes recorded remain in the possession of the collector, as they contain confidential information. The videorecording was made by O. Nwoke at the New Yam Festival in Elu on Sept. 29, 1990. It includes performances of the Èkpè masquerade, war dancers and the Èkpè and Okonko societies.
